Sarasota County Fire Station #14 is a 9,300-square-foot, two-story LEED Silver facility located on a constrained site along a busy arterial road in Osprey, Florida. The building is organized to establish a clear civic presence while responding to the adjacent residential neighborhood. A wedge-shaped upper volume clad in cementitious panels rises above a masonry base, creating a sheltered entry plaza and marking the station as a public facility. Reinforced masonry walls, elevated precast floor systems, and pre-engineered metal roof framing provide durability and long-term performance.
Sustainable strategies are integrated throughout the project, including cool roofs and paving surfaces, a solar water-heating system, high-efficiency HVAC, low-VOC materials, and water-conserving plumbing fixtures. The station was designed to align with the AIA 2030 Challenge and support reduced energy consumption over its lifecycle. Sweet Sparkman served as Architect of Record, and the design was later adapted to develop a sister facility, Sarasota County Fire Station #12 on Bee Ridge Road.
