Sarasota County Fire Station #16 combines advanced firefighting facilities with sustainable design and multi-agency functionality. The station includes three drive-through apparatus bays, living quarters for nine firefighters/EMS personnel, and essential amenities such as a kitchen, exercise room, day room, dining area, and a screened porch. A dedicated wing houses Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office operations, with office space, storage for specialty vehicles, and facilities for Mounted Patrol.
Designed with Florida’s vernacular style in mind, the fire station achieved Silver LEED certification through features like daylight harvesting, drought-tolerant landscaping, tankless water heaters with solar augmentation, and high-albedo roofing to reduce heat. Built for durability and minimal maintenance, the structure incorporates concrete floors, masonry walls, and cementitious siding. This station’s efficient and sustainable design was also adapted for Sarasota County Fire Station #17, reflecting its value as a model for future facilities.
