Sarasota, FL – Sweet Sparkman Architecture & Interiors is proud to announce the promotion of Shane LaMay, AIA, NCARB, to Partner. LaMay, a licensed architect and project manager, has been a key contributor to the firm since joining full-time in 2019. His exceptional talent and leadership have made a significant impact on the firm’s diverse portfolio, and this promotion reflects his continued dedication to the firm’s growth and success.

LaMay holds a Bachelor of Design Degree (2014) and a Master’s in Architecture (2016) from the University of Florida, where he interned with Sweet Sparkman during his studies at UF CityLab Sarasota. Since then, LaMay has worked on a broad spectrum of projects ranging from single-family residences to commercial and civic buildings.

A highlight of LaMay’s recent work includes his leadership in developing structures at The Bay Park in Sarasota, a transformative project that converts 53 acres of city-owned asphalt into a vibrant green park. Notable contributions to The Bay include the design of the iconic spiral “Nest” structure on the Boulevard of the Arts, which has become a focal point of the park.

Beyond The Bay Park, LaMay has led high-profile projects such as the Asolo Repertory Theatre Koski Production Center and the Sarasota County History Center. He has also led notable residential projects along the Florida Gulf Coast, in Maui, Hawaii, and in Aspen, Colorado.

In addition to his architectural work, LaMay has been active in the Sarasota community. He has served on the City of Sarasota’s Board of Adjustments and was appointed to the City of Sarasota’s Planning Board in 2023. He also contributed to the Sarasota County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.

As a new Partner at Sweet Sparkman, LaMay will take on an increased role in studio management while continuing to provide senior-level leadership in both civic and residential projects.
