Sweet Sparkman is pleased to announce that Morningside Residence has been selected as a Special Mention in the Architizer A+ Awards, within the Residential Interiors greater than 3,000 square feet category.

The Architizer A+ Awards are one of the largest global awards programs dedicated to architecture and design. With submissions from more than 70 countries, the program recognizes projects that demonstrate strong design thinking and execution. Fewer than 5 percent of submitted projects are selected as Special Mention honorees, placing Morningside Residence among a select group of recognized work.

Located on a barrier island in Florida, Morningside Residence was designed as a private coastal home shaped by its site, climate, and the daily needs of its owners. The design responds to an internal lot condition by organizing the house around a series of courtyards and filtered outdoor spaces. This approach creates privacy, brings daylight into the interior, and establishes a close relationship between the home and the landscape.

The residence supports aging in place by placing the primary living spaces on a single elevated level that meets FEMA flood elevation requirements. The plan separates everyday living areas from guest suites, allowing the home to function efficiently for day-to-day use while accommodating family and visitors when needed. Narrow landscape courtyards between the building volumes bring light and air into the center of the home.

A perforated concrete screen at the second level is one of the project’s defining elements. The screen filters daylight into the courtyard and provides privacy while maintaining a sense of openness. At night, uplighting gives the courtyard a quiet presence and reveals the depth and texture of the screen. UHPC panels are used as part of this architectural expression, contributing to the home’s durable and refined material palette.

The interior design is closely tied to the architecture. Durable materials, controlled daylight, and a restrained palette create a calm living environment suited to the coastal setting. The project balances practical requirements with carefully composed interior and exterior spaces.

This recognition by the Architizer A+ Awards affirms the project’s integration of residential interiors, coastal resilience, and site-responsive design. Sweet Sparkman is honored to have Morningside Residence acknowledged among outstanding projects from around the world.
